塑胶跑道在我国已有30多年历史,分为全塑型、混合型和颗粒型,主要由面层和基础层构成,厚度一般为13mm。全塑型塑胶跑道的面层由浇注型聚氨酯(RCPU)和防滑胶粒(EPDM或RCPU胶粒)组成,RCPU成本高,因此跑道造价较高;混合型塑胶跑道使用RCPU作主体材料,加入10%～25%废旧轮胎胶粒,上部撒防滑胶粒,造价比全塑型塑胶跑道低;颗粒型塑胶跑道以废轮胎胶粒为主体材料(60%～70%),用RCPU作粘合剂,采用摊铺法施工制成,造价,但施工所用的摊铺机、喷涂胶粒包胶机等铺设设备需要进口,一次性投入很高,且性能较前两种差。目前国内塑胶跑道以混合型为主。以上各类塑胶跑道均需与沥青路面基础良好粘合,基础造价一般80～120元·m-2,塑胶跑道总造价一般230～450元·m-2。虽然塑胶跑道弹性适中,美观实用,能提高运动员比赛成绩和保护运动员免受意外事故伤害,但造价高,至今未普及应用。
